Hi, I'm Elena and for the past two years I've managed to get to know Yerevan quite well and find my favorite places which I often visit. I'd like to tell about them here.

Mandatory morning coffee

It's easy to find a good coffee shop with tasty coffee in Yerevan, both with regular espresso and americano and an alternative. All coffee shops are concentrated on the central streets, but there are also hidden places that are difficult to come across just by walking around the city.

Haldi.co

202 °F – Alternative Coffee Brewing

A great place to sit outside with a book and enjoy filter coffee.

If you want to drink espresso, bumble or matcha among the grim garages.

Exploring Soviet modernism

Yerevan is an ancient city, but you don’t feel it at all because it was rebuilt many times. There are few preserved low-rise pre-revolutionary buildings here but on the other hand sometimes you can stumble upon incredible facades that the city inherited from the Soviet times.
The building is a mystery, since the dates of its construction are indicated differently in different sources, and in general there is very little information. You can't walk around inside - this is an active university building.
Yeritasardakan was opened in 1981. It is notable for the ribbed pipe that exits the building at an angle and allows natural light into the lobby.
The station was built in 1971 according to the design of architects Armen Aghalyan and Grigory Grigoryan. The unusual facade has not only a decorative function: it also protected the equipment from the sun. Now there are offices and a communication museum on the ground floor.
On Paronyan Street you can unexpectedly come across an unusual fence in the form of a ribbon designed by Eduard Tangyan. Although the fence is located on an ordinary pedestrian street, and there are plenty of photographs of it on the Internet, there are signs along its entire length that it is forbidden to take pictures of it, and vigilant police officers make sure that no one breaks this rule.

Children's railway

This railway designed to entertain children was opened in 1937. Now the place is half-abandoned, but an old train sometimes carries children and tourists. Nearby there is the station building, where colorful stained glass windows and a vintage chandelier are still preserved.

Kond tunnel

A very unusual landmark of Yerevan for those, who love industrial objects. The tunnel connects two parts of the city, separated by the Hrazdan River gorge. The walls are dented and covered with graffiti, and in some places sand is pouring out from under the cladding, so when walking through the tunnel, you begin to think about the safety of the structure. Actually here are two such tunnels, but one is closed precisely because of its emergency condition.

Cascade and Memorial to the 50th Anniversary of October Revolution

An architectural complex consisting of 572 steps and several platforms located on the slopes of the mountain. It is most convenient to start a walk along the Cascade from the top, from the monument to the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution, where a beautiful view of the city opens, and then gradually go down.

Dinner and wine

Many restaurants in Yerevan are open late and even by midnight sometimes it can be difficult to find a free table – so it is always better to book in advance.

Sherep

Popular restaurant with open kitchen and live music. It can be loud here due to celebrations, but where in Yerevan it can not?
Entrance to the restaurant

Tumanyan Khinkali

Despite the name, the menu here is very rich and is not limited to khinkali alone, although it is definitely worth trying them here. They can fry them for gourmets.
Saryan is one of the busiest streets in Yerevan especially in the evening. You can hop from one wine bar to another all night and each time it will be a new one.

In Vino

Elegant bar with a wide selection of Armenian and international wines.
